Star strewn leather and shimmering silver, leopard print thighs and glittering flying saucers; there was a nod to Ziggy Stardust and an other-worldly aesthetic at the Charlotte Olympia autumn / winter show, held at the appropriately theatrical Roundhouse Theatre.
Known for her whimsical creations that draw on the tenets of old Hollywood glamour, her current offering does not stray from this signature style. There is still the playful decadence of a bygone era – but with a space-age, comic book twist.
Attended by friends Alexa Chung and Daisy Lowe, and closed by her sister Alice Dellal in thigh-high, embellished velvet boots, her debut catwalk show did not disappoint. Accessories being her métier, the clothes, whilst custom made for the show, will not be for sale.
Clad in all black and emerging from velvet darkness, models with undone waves and smoke lined eyes carried Perspex boxes and rolled up comic books as bags, alien faces and galaxies embossed in leather, and all atop familiar, iconic platform heels. They arrived in crushed velvet and pastel patchwork, adorned in silver glitter or purple Lucite rocks; an irreverent and covetable offering from the girl who fell to earth.
